LOVE and PEACE

The Five Minds is a concept developed by Ellie Drew as a way to explain how different aspects of ourselves have their own agenda without regard to the others. They are the First or Physical Mind, the Second or Emotional Mind, the Third or Intellectual Mind, the Fourth or Spirit Mind, and the Fifth Mind.

Briefly, the Physical Mind is located in the lower belly area called dan tien, which also corresponds to the second Chakra. The Physical Mind has an agenda that deals only with its physical wants, needs and desires regardless of consequence or rational thinking. It has no need to be loved – only food, shelter and sex – not always in that order. Also, physical health and the desire to have things that will enhance the physical experience.

The Second Mind, the Emotional Mind resides in the solar plexus area, called Golden Bowl in Qigong training. It is where our emotional vulnerability and history reside. The Emotional Mind has one agenda, to be cared about, often times confused with being loved.

In its unhealthy form it is confused with love and completely conditional, such as, “I’ll love you if…” or “If you loved me, you’d…”.It can be very immature and childlike if the terms “loving” and “caring” are confused. For the most part, the Emotional Mind can be satisfied only if it feels loved according to how it has defined what love is.

Some people thinks this resides in the heart, but emotional love does not come from the heart. It is from a gut feel and primal need to be cared about which is the mature form of the Second Mind. Everyone needs to be cared about to be emotionally healthy.

The Third Mind, or Intellectual Mind, resides in the back of the head regulating reason and logic. Its agenda is to gather information, and “always be right”. It doesn’t care about being fed or loved, it only wants to be fed information. It tends to be arrogant, detached and thinks it is superior, or above the lower two minds.

This mind tries to make rational sense of life experiences so it can grow and learn. It doesn’t like to be embarrassed, so it works hard to learn quickly so as not to make the same mistake twice; however it is not always successful.

The Fourth Mind, or Spirit Mind (Ellie has specifically not called it the Spiritual Mind because there are too many connotations with the word “spiritual”) resides in the centre and front part of head called upper dan tien. It doesn’t have an agenda, but a purpose to make the connection between the spirit and the physical realms. It regulates intuition. It is a gentler mind and needs to be invited to participate.

It will leave whenever there is aggression from any of the lower three minds because it has no agenda to play any of the lower mind games. However, the Fourth Mind can be the greatest source of strength in times of crisis if it is fully cultivated and utilized.

It expresses in many subtle ways, such as feelings within the body or knowing something without reason. It is most often known as the “still small voice”. It is the most powerful mind we have, and is typically the least developed and the least used. To the general public, it is also the least understood of the Five Minds.

The Fifth Mind can be activated only if one is cognizant of how the Fourth Mind works and actively working with the Fourth Mind. It resides in the middle dan tien, and is expressed as unconditional love. It recognizes love as an action, not a feeling. It thinks globally rather than locally, although local action can and will be taken if it is in line with global thinking. It cannot be contained and is expressed as free spirited or eccentric. Its action can seem ruthless if it is on a mission of a higher purpose since it has little patience with the antics of the lower minds.

The Fifth Mind works in full partnership with the Fourth Mind, consciously working with the Spirit Realm to take action in the physical realm if is appropriate. You might feel it as one who has love expressed as power, and feel it as if that person is a “force of nature”. Power, without any thought to abuse power, but power to be used as a vehicle or catalyst for positive change.

One who lives by the Fifth Mind may seem detached and unfeeling, when in fact they embody the purest love. The Fifth Mind is not manipulated by any of the lower three minds, but uses them to serve its higher purpose.

Unfortunately, it was too badly hurt to recover and I had to put it out of its misery.  It was hard not to be angry with my cat, because he was only doing what cats do.  He’s actually quite a gentle little soul and really doesn’t bother much with hunting.  The moth probably fluttered down right in front of him and he couldn’t resist it.

Butterflies and moths are finally making a comeback in this area after the disasterous spraying for the gypsy moth that the BC government did several years ago. This particular moth was uncommon and should have had the chance to reproduce.

Some people wouldn’t feel so bad over killing an insect, but I felt horrible.  However, messages come when they are needed. The next day I opened up my email box to this from the Daily OM.

No Wrong Response
Experiences Shape Your Reactions

Our view of the universe is largely determined by our experiences. It is when we are caught off guard by the spontaneity of existence that we are most apt to respond authentically, even when our feelings do not correspond with those of the multitude. Events that arouse strong emotions with us or are surprising in nature can be disquieting, for it often is in their aftermath that we discover how profoundly our histories have shaped us. The differences that divide us from our peers are highlighted in our reactions when these diverge from the mainstream, and this can be highly upsetting because it forces us to confront the uniqueness of our lives.

When our response to unexpected news or startling ideas is not the same as that of the people around us, we may feel driven by a desire to dismiss our feelings as irrational or incorrect. But reactions themselves are neither right, nor wrong. The forces that sculpted the patterns that to a large extent dictate our development are not the same forces that shaped the development of our relatives, friends, colleagues, or neighbors. There is no reason to believe that one person’s reaction to a particular event is somehow more valid than another’s. How we respond to the constant changes taking place in the world around us is a product of our history, a testament to our individuality, and a part of the healing process that allows us to address key elements of our past in a context we can grasp in the present.

Life’s pivotal events can provide you with a way to define yourself as a unique and matchless being, but you must put aside the judgments that might otherwise prevent you from gaining insight into your distinct mode of interpreting the world. Try to internalize your feelings without categorizing or evaluating them. When you feel unsure of the legitimacy of your reactions, remember that cultural, sociological, spiritual, and familial differences can cause two people to interpret a single event in widely dissimilar ways. Examining your responses outside of the context provided by others can show you that your emotional complexity is something to be valued, for it has made you who you are today.

There is the Land-Walker perspective. You see and name only that which is in front of you in the physical. There is the Water-Way. Are you flowing with ease, holding on or swimming against the current? There is Eagle Vision where you see many sides to a situation and the higher purpose of your lessons, even the painful ones. When you learn to cultivate the Eagle Vision and the Water-Way you will begin to learn the lessons of Inner Listening that cannot be done as a Land-Walker.

Soon you will see meaning in everything. You will begin to see the ebb and flow of your life and all that is around you. You will begin to be in harmony with nature and its rhythms. You will begin to hear nature sing; you will hear celestial music that heals all things.

You will begin to hear My Voice in your play, in your lovemaking, in your sadness, in your slumber, in your joy, in your grief, in your death. It is all an ebb and flow of nature; of the Creative Impulse of Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma; of Yin and Yang. Do not resist the flow; learn the flow well.

We have spoken to you before of the usefulness of Astrology and such things as Tarot cards. These are not sacred things; they are practical things. For if you study them, you will begin to see the patterns in your life. Do not take them from the perspective of the Land-Walker, but first from the perspective of the Water-Way. What is the general flow? When does the theme of the cards or stars change? Then over time, look at it from the Eagle Vision. What are the over-all themes of your life?

Land-Walker Vision is for immediate observation. Water-Way vision is for how you are flowing within the immediate situation and on your life-path. Eagle Vision is for the over all patterns in your life. If you view life only from the perspective of the Land-Walker, it will feel bleak, harsh, meaningless, cruel, reactive. Learn the Water-Way and Eagle Vision and your life will be meaningful, spiritual, filled with joy and gladness.

I’ve adapted both female and the male versions of the Antahkarana symbol so that they can be created in stained glass. While I’m making them, I energize them with Reiki energy so that they can enhance healing and meditation.

Below is a Reiki Grid to be used with crystals.

An update: I do offer my work for sale through my eBay store, Funky Junk & Jewels. I’ve safely shipped stained glass pieces to places all over Canada, the US and other parts of the world.

Each piece is lovingly handmade and unique. I also accept special orders.

The symbol is multidimensional. From one perspective it appears to be two dimensional, being made up of 3 – sevens on a flat surface. The three sevens represent the seven chakras, the seven colours and the seven tones of the musical scale. From another perspective this symbol appears as a three dimensional cube. Its energy moves up from two to three dimensions that can be seen and continues up through unseen dimensions all the way to the highest dimension – the dimension of the Higher Self.

There are two versions of the Antahkarana. The female version is slightly larger than the male version. The female version should be used if you feel that more compassionate energy is needed. The male version is used if you wish to access more assertive energy.

Or consider using both if you wish the yin/yang balance.

To use an Antahkarana in your energy work, hang the stained glass symbol on the wall, or in a window of your healing room, facing the person or area to be healed if possible. However this is not necessary as it doesn’t need to be seen by the person receiving the healing for it to work.

Or hang the symbol in your meditation room and use it for contemplation. You could also simply enjoy it in a window of your bedroom or workplace and still receive benefit from it.
